Minerals Local Plan Issues and Options consultation
Q9 Would it be more appropriate to prioritise specific areas above others?
Representation ID: 30413

Respondent: Newark Town Council
Issue most concern and importance to the Town Council is the traffic impact on the town which could arise from new quarries.
Current traffic situation around Newark is a major problem, a minor accident can cause complete gridlock. This is exacerbated when there is a problem with the A1.
Any sites put forward in the MLP should pay particular regard to the consequential traffic impact, particularly if they are near to Newark. A full Traffic Impact Assessment should be undertaken for each site together with any cumulative impact if there is more than one site being brought forward near Newark.
With regard to the Minerals Plan, the issue which is of most concern and importance to the Town Council is the traffic impact on the town which could arise from any new sites opening up nearby.
The current traffic situation in and around Newark is a major problem, the road network is extremely fragile; a minor accident can cause a complete gridlock in the town. This is exacerbated when there is a problem with the A1, which happens all too frequently, and brings traffic around the town to a complete standstill.
It against this background that the Town Council would ask that any site options put forward in the new Minerals Plan should pay particular regard to the consequential traffic impact, particularly if they are near to Newark. As such a full Traffic Impact Assessment should be carried out for each individual site together with any cumulative impact if there is more than one site being brought forward in the vicinity of Newark.
