Draft Nottinghamshire Minerals Local Plan
Question 20: What do you think of the draft policy to meet demand for coal over the plan period?
Representation ID: 32000
Received: 24/09/2018
Respondent: Trowell Parish Council
The government wishes to reduce greenhouse gases and so all applications for surface mining should be rejected. The market is also declining and the damage it causes does not justify the extraction of coal. Therefore it is unacceptable and uneconomic.
Dear Sirs,
Please find my Council's response in respect of the above:
Question 20 -
Given the government's commitment to a reduction in greenhouse gases, all applications for surface mining should be rejected. The market for coal is shrinking as coal burning power stations are phased out. The damage to the environment, properties, and people's lives does not justify this type of extraction. Years of disturbance and destruction to provide months of actual coal provision to a rapidly declining market is unacceptable and uneconomic.
Kind Regards
