Question 18: What do you think of the draft policy to meet demand for industrial dolomite over the plan period?

There is a continuing need for industrial dolomite extraction to supply both the UK market and for export.
Whitwell Quarry does not have sufficient reserves of industrial quality mineral to supply our Whitwell Works for the plan period (to 2036).
Steetley intends to continue production at Whitwell Works, and to this end is commencing a site search.
Dolomitic limestone is known to be variable in quality, and until the necessary geological and chemical testing is completed it is not possible to confirm suitability of any particular deposit.
Steetley considers the proposed policy provides the necessary support for industrial dolomite extraction.
