Cromwell Quarry
We support the continued use of Cromwell Quarry for river dredging as we are the National Dredging Contractor for the Canal and River Trust. Cromwell quarry has proven to be an effective, cost effective and sustainable solution for the dredging projects over the years as suitable access points, wharfs and disposal sites are becoming few and far between on the River.
Further dredging works is planned during 2019, 2022, and 2026 and the use of this site will almost certainly be required. Alternatives to this would involve the use of road haulage resulting in increased costs and increased HGV movements on the local roads.
With regards to the current Mineral Local Plan consultation for the use of Cromwell Wharf and Cromwell Quarry, we would like to write to you to support the continued use of the site.
Acting as the National Dredging Contractor for the Canal and River Trust we have carried out several dredging campaigns on the River Trent over the past 15 years, removing sediment from various locations on the river to aid navigation and continually maintain this important local asset.
During these works we have made use of the Cromwell Wharf for unloading dredged material, and the permitted site at Cromwell quarry for the disposal. This has proven to be an effective, cost effective and sustainable solution for the dredging projects over the years as suitable access points, wharfs and disposal sites are becoming few and far between on the River.
Further dredging works are planned on the River during 2019, 2022, and 2026 and the use of this site will almost certainly be required to enable these works. Any alternatives to this would almost certainly involve the use of road haulage of the material resulting in an increase to the cost of the works and increased HGV movements on the local roads.
