Nottinghamshire and Nottingham Draft Waste Local Plan January 2022

Representation Summary:

Unfortunately, due to the programmes shown on TV, a lot of people believe that the waste sent for recycling go to landfill site in other countries. Also, some businesses do not have a recycling plan. Also, when you move to a different council each council have different rules of what they accept and don't accept. Eg. Notts council don't accept glass when the lorry goes round but if you move to Doncaster, they do but you have a box to put it in. Yes, I know we have glass points in villages but a lot of people can't get there as they are disabled or elderly and are unable to get to the points therefore end up putting the glass in general waste. I think across the country there should be the same rules. I believe we need to change people's conception of recycling. I wonder if maybe there are tours people can go round to see what happens to items that are sent for recycling to encourage people to recycle more. Gainsborough have a very good recycling centre well set out and have separate sections for all the items to be recycled.
Maybe Notts council could go and have a look for some ideas. I definitely do think we need to change people's attitudes to recycling.
I do think we need to change food producer's ideas because when a person is single you cannot buy a lot of items for just one person so the person has to buy more than one and then often ends up chucking the other away thus wasting food and more food ending up in landfill, and when so when many people are hungry, it seems such a waste of good food. I do think all general waste should be used to produce electricity.
I hope the points are useful.
