Representation Summary:

I am responding to Notts County Council's invitation to comment on waste.reycycling facilities in the County. These have long been a concern so I welcomed the opportnity to do so. I have not, however, been able to access the online survey (despite seeking help from call centre staff), so I am senidng my comments via email as follows:
Recycling Centre, Northern Road Industrial Centre, Newark
I use this frequently - some of the staff can be a little grumpy at times, but it is well kept and easy to access and sufficient to needs
Domestic Waste management/ Recycling, Newark
This is the main area of concern. The current scheme has very limited plastic recycling and what there is can be confusing to remember. A label on the silver bins might help, also making it clear that any recyclables that still have foodstuffs attached are not useable. Some public information films could be helpful.
The staff on the refuse lorries have all been to charm school, and are always helpful and polite.
The Lincs CC scheme will take glass bottles whilst the Notts one does not. No doubt around the county there are many variations.
Conclusion
I think there should be a national scheme, with all areas taking the same items for recycling and a uniform colour scheme for all the bins. This would encourage the general public to take more responsibility.
I think also that charging for taking rubble and large items to the recycling centres has been counter-productive, leading to more refuse being left in the countryside.
