Received: 07/05/2020

Respondent: Waste Management

Representation Summary:

We feel there needs to be more clarity over what is included in the Local Authority Collected Waste as this figure contradicts the figures used for the various scenarios of growth. Question 5

Representation ID: 461

Received: 07/05/2020

Respondent: Waste Management

Representation Summary:

We expect either scenario A or B to be the most appropriate due to factors including Brexit, Covid-19 and the Resources and Waste Strategy.

Full text:

As mentioned above, there needs to be further clarity of what waste is included within this definition as this figure is lower than that stated in the waste estimate due to the apparent inclusion of trade waste in the previous number.

The stated scenario A mentions the Waste and Resources Strategy, this should be the 'Resources and Waste Strategy' for all future documents.

We believe that the likely scenarios are either A or B due to factors including Brexit and Covid-19 which are expected to have a significant impact on the UK economy in the short to medium-term. Should measures from the Resource and Waste Strategy come to fruition this will also likely contribute to a reduction in waste per household as people become more aware of the waste they are throwing away, particularly in the case of food waste.

Question 9

Representation ID: 474

Received: 07/05/2020

Respondent: Waste Management

Representation Summary:

Whilst a 10% rise in recycling rates is in our opinion achievable we believe this is on the optimistic side of and will depend on the levels of any Government contribution to implement proposals set out in the Resources and Waste Strategy. This may be under threat due to the impact on the economy that we face as a result of Covid-19 and Brexit.

Clarity should be given around what is meant by '750,000 tonnes of permitted annual energy recovery capacity.' It is understood this is with regards to planning permission rather than environmentally permitted.
